Nike’s NFT Platform .SWOOSH Launches Rewards for Virtual Sneaker Designs


Nike’s NFT platform .SWOOSH is offering a $5,000 cash prize and a chance at collaborating with Nike designers for a one-of-one digital sneaker.

“At .SWOOSH, we’d like to expand the definition of what a creator can be. That’s why this .SWOOSH Studio contest prioritizes creative storytelling over creative skills,” Nike said in a press release.

The contest, called #YourForce1, challenges users to create a visual storyboard via Instagram post featuring eight original images and media that showcase their footwear design. Users who are interested can register for the contest here.

The contest’s webpage notes that it is only open to residents of the US, UK, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain & Sweden.

Four winners will be chosen, with each taking home $5,000 and an opportunity to directly collaborate with Nike designers for a pair of limited edition one-of-one digital sneakers for the first-ever .SWOOSH collection.

“As we get closer to releasing our first signature collection, those creators’ designs could become part of the drop. If that happens, we’ll send over a co-creation contract which could allow you to earn royalties from every sale of your design. More on that in the coming weeks,” reads a press release.

The contest will close January 29, 2023, leaving a narrow time window for those hopeful to be part of Nike’s next step into Web3 and part of .SWOOSH’s first signature NFT collection.

.SWOOSH, launched in November 2022, is Nike’s latest venture into Web3. The NFT-focused platform allows community members to create and trade their own collectibles. .SWOOSH aims to be a resource for Web3 onboarding and an eCommerce hub for virtual sportswear that can be worn in Web3 games and other immersive experiences, says Nike.

NFT creation on .SWOOSH also lets its community members earn royalties. 

“We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the Web3-curious. In this new space, the .SWOOSH community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together,” Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios, said in a press release.

In 2021, Nike purchased Web3 fashion and collectibles startup RTFKT to prep for the metaverse. Back in 2020, Nike announced plans to begin testing how blockchain technology can trace their supply chain process, through RFID technology. 

Back in 2019, Nike filed a patent for Web3 sneakers, called “Cryptokicks” – leading up to April 2022’s metaverse sneaker line RTFKT x Nike Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks drop.
