Shytoshi Kusama, lead developer of Shiba Inu (SHIB) has announced further details on the ecosystem’s expansion, which includes a stablecoin (SHI), a reward token (TREAT), and updates on Shibarium – SHIB’s bespoke layer 2 (L2) protocol.
In the blog post, Shy has mentioned anxieties regarding releasing a stablecoin, as many other stable tokens have collapsed over the course of this year’s global financial crisis. However, Shy has hope in SHI, as developers have submitted a version where “SHI can be used to counter and balance payments that need to be done without market fluctuations”.
The SHI stablecoin is anticipated to release this year as an experimental protocol. Further details regarding the stablecoin are not yet finalised, according to the blog post.
Joining SHI, TREAT is a reward token tied to the Shiba Collectible Card Game, and will “help provide balance” to the stablecoin. TREAT will also derive rewards for the Shiba Inu Metaverse. The announcement also mentions that developers are reserving a limited supply of TREAT for longtime supporters of the Shiba Inu project.

More has also been revealed regarding the development of Shibarium – Shiba Inu’s unique layer 2 (L2) protocol – where new developers have been onboarded to work on the project. However, there is not yet an announced Public Beta launch date for the L2 blockchain protocol. xFUND and SHIB developers are part of the ambitious project.
SHIB developers have revealed that the Shiba Inu metaverse development met a temporary roadblock, however issues have been resolved. The metaverse plans to include 100,000 virtual real estate plots.
Furthermore, the SHIB team has also hinted that a new collectible card game developed by Playside and Shiba Games is currently in the works.
Adding to Shiba Inu’s tokenomics, the SHI stablecoin and the TREAT reward token can be used in the anticipated collectible card game in Shiba Inu’s metaverse. The BONE gas token would be the reward token for Shibarium validators.
